How does your rating system work?

Morningstar Video - Unique and Intuitive Ratings System: Get to Know a Movie Better Than You Do!

In addition to an overall rating for quality and enjoyability, we use seven specific category criteria to evaluate our movies and shows.  Each criterion is given a star rating from 0-5 stars to let you know the appropriateness of the content is for you or your family. In general, the more stars, the more family friendly!

The seven criteria are:

  • Biblical Content: Clarifies the degree to which biblical content is portrayed in the movie.  While not all of our DVDs and streaming movies are focused on biblical themes (such as sports, politics, or exercise videos, etc.), we will not offer any movie that portrays Christianity, Christians, Judaism, Jews, or the Bible in a negative light.

  • Sexual Content:  Clarifies the degree to which sexual content exists in the movie, ranging from none to some suggestive activity or bikini type attire.  We will not offer any titles that contain frontal nudity, graphic sexual activity, or inappropriate sexual relations without consequences.

  • Violence: Clarifies the degree to which gratuitous violence is depicted in the movie, ranging from none to some violence with weapons.  We will not offer content that shows excessive graphic violence.

  • Language: Clarifies the degree to which profane language is used in the movie, ranging from none to some crude or obscene language being used.  We will not offer any titles that use excessive or vulgar profanity, or any content where Biblical profanity is used.

  • Drugs/Alcohol: Clarifies the degree to which drugs or alcohol are used in the movie, ranging from none to some instances of drugs or alcohol being used.  However, we will not offer movies that promote or glamorize the use of drugs, alcohol, or tobacco, although historical depictions and neutral or fleeting use may be permitted.

  • Other Objectionable Content: Clarifies the degree to which content that may be offensive to some is portrayed in the movie.  Examples may include disrespect for authority, lying, cheating, stealing, illegal activity, witchcraft or sorcery.

  • Controversial Content: Clarifies the degree to which controversial themes are presented in the movie, ranging from no serious theological or political debates presented to movies where many of the themes fall outside of mainstream of traditional Christian beliefs or otherwise result in emotional disagreements among people of faith.
